Who this document is for
This document explains what information may be involved when you use My Sky (the “App”), its widgets, and optional notification features if you turn them on. It covers what happens on your device, what is handled by Apple and subscription partners, and when the App makes requests to public space-weather data sources.
We aim to process only what is needed for the features you choose to use.
Infrastructure: no developer “cloud” for your content
The developer of My Sky does not operate compute farms or databases that collect your App settings, chosen map location, Moon-phase results, eclipse schedules, UI preferences, or other content you create inside the App. There is no centralized repository on our side: processing runs on your iPhone or iPad, and data is stored in standard on-device storage. Where the main app and widget need shared data, iOS App Groups provide a protected local container on the same device—not an upload to us.
All astronomical math runs on your device, including phases, rise/set, visibility, and finding and displaying solar and lunar eclipses for the dates and coordinates you provide. Coordinates, dates, and intermediate steps of those calculations are not sent to “our” remote service for recalculation—there is no such channel.
The typical network interactions that do not involve the developer’s own servers are:
- Apple — in-app purchases and subscriptions via the App Store, and entitlement checks under Apple’s rules.
- RevenueCat (if enabled in the build) — operational sync of subscription status and paywall content; see RevenueCat’s own data documentation. This is not storage of your astronomical tables on our machines.
- Public space-environment data providers — when you open relevant screens, the App may request, over HTTPS from your device, aggregated data from NOAA (including SWPC) and, where applicable, NASA: geomagnetic indices, events such as magnetic disturbances and storms, solar wind parameters, solar flares, as implemented in the current version. Requests go directly, not through the developer’s infrastructure; the API operator’s policies apply, including for IP addresses and connection metadata.
In short, “we don’t use our servers for your content” means there is no developer-operated backend for user accounts or mirroring your App data. Online activity is limited to the external services above and their policies.
Categories of information
Location
If you grant location access, iOS provides accuracy according to its own rules (approximate to precise). That supports sky calculations “for your place.” Without permission, some modes may rely on manual coordinates or work in a limited way, as implemented in the build.
Coordinates are not sent to the developer of My Sky; they remain in local storage and/or the App Group on your device.
Choosing a place by name (bundled directory)
If you pick a locality from a catalog bundled with the App, search and coordinate lookup happen on your device. The city list is shipped in the app binary (built from open data, including GeoNames; license and attribution may appear in About / licenses). City names and resulting coordinates are not sent to the developer of My Sky for “parsing” on our server—they are applied locally like manually entered coordinates.
Paid features (Eclipse Pro and others)
Access to paid capabilities may rely on product identifiers, subscription state, and related technical fields as defined by Apple and, when used, RevenueCat. Payments go through Apple; RevenueCat’s handling is described in RevenueCat’s official privacy policy.
Push notifications
If you enable notifications, the system issues a delivery token used by Apple to deliver reminders and events supported by the App.
Stability and crash reports
Crash logs, device model, and OS version may be processed if you submit a report or if you opt in to developer diagnostics in iOS settings. The goal is to fix defects.
Advertising and IDFA
As of the document date above, the App does not show ads and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) for ad targeting. If that changes, this document will be updated and iOS may request separate permission where required.
Space weather (NOAA / NASA, etc.)
Screens that load public near-Earth environment indicators connect directly to endpoints such as services.swpc.noaa.gov and, when applicable, NASA portals. This is not building a personal profile: the App requests general indices and event feeds. The developer of My Sky does not receive your astronomical calculation data through that channel; the API operator may process network metadata under its own policies.
Permissions in iOS Settings
The App may request location (see above), notifications (see above), and Calendar—only if that integration exists in your build and you confirm the system prompt. You can revoke any permission at any time in the Settings app.
Organizations other than the developer
We do not maintain a warehouse of your App content on our side (see the beginning of this document). Third parties may process data as follows:
- Apple — App Store, subscriptions, iOS infrastructure.
- RevenueCat — when enabled, subscription accounting on their systems.
- Public space-weather API operators — NOAA, NASA, and similar; see the space weather section.
We do not sell personal data as a commodity and do not mirror your App’s contents on a separate developer server.
Retention and security
Astronomical calculation results (including eclipse logic), preferences, and derived files stay on your device by default; no developer server is used for that. Security relies on iOS mechanisms. Do not enter highly sensitive information in fields not meant for it. After you delete the App, data is usually erased with it (subject to any iOS-level retention rules).
Children
The product is not designed to knowingly collect data from children below the age where parental or user consent is required under local law. If you believe data was shared without a proper basis, contact mysky.app@tutamail.com.
